The European Commission is delighted to announce that the call for scholarships to study at the United World Colleges (UWC) in the academic year 2024-2026 is now open until the 7 January 2024.

Through a new EU-funded agreement of € 1.5 million, with the United World Colleges, 18 new scholars will have the chance to attend the International Baccalaureate diploma programme at UWC schools in Europe (UWC Adriatic, UWC Maastricht, UWC Mostar, and UWC Robert Bosch College). Applicants will be selected according to UWC’s selection procedures, based on their intellectual curiosity and motivation, active commitment, social competence, resilience, personal responsibility and integrity.

Launched in 2019, the EU Scholarship programme at UWC has already granted 46 scholarships for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot students to attend a UWC school. This is a project focused on intercommunity dialogue and reconciliation, which has a tangible and everlasting impact on these children’s lives. The EU Scholarship programme also offers opportunities in Cyprus through bicommunal youth engagement activities, short courses and mentorship programmes. These opportunities are open to the wider community, giving more youth the chance to practice intercommunal dialogue while working on their leadership and change-making skills. The UWC’s transformative educational model based on promoting peace and intercultural understanding between communities is in line with the European Union founding values of respect for human rights, equality, freedom and advancement of peace, security and justice for its citizens.

The EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC is funded under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community as a reconciliation and confidence building measure, aiming to facilitate the reunification of Cyprus. Since 2006, the EU allocated EUR 688 million to projects in support of the Turkish Cypriot community.

Candidates interested in benefiting from this opportunity will be able to get further information at: UWC Cyprus - HOME
