HR/VP Josep Borrell travels to Panama to boost bilateral and multilateral ties

Following his visit to Chile, HR/VP Josep Borrell is in Panama today and tomorrow to boost ties with an important partner for the European Union in Central America in the areas of multilateralism, democracy, trade, economic development and political relations. Today, Monday 2 May, he will visit the Panama Canal and will inaugurate the new offices of the EU Delegation in Panama. He will also meet with the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, as well as with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Erika Mouynes, and the Minister for Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino. At the end of the day, the HR/VP will hold a press conference with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama, Erika Mouynes. On Tuesday 3 May, he will participate in a special meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Central American Integration System (SICA) countries. The HR/VP Josep Borrell will also hold separate meetings with both SICA and CARICOM Foreign Ministers, as well as other bilateral meetings in the margins. A press conference with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama, Erika Mouynes, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belice, Eamon Courtenay, is also scheduled. Whilst in Panama, the HR/VP will also visit the Juan Díaz wastewater treatment plant, the expansion of which has been financed by the European Investment Bank.
