300 young people from across the island participated in discussions and interactive workshops on mental health and wellbeing, a sustainable green Europe, quality employment and learning, and equality of all genders. There were breakout rooms providing HR advice for people looking to improve their job-seeking skills, and booths with information about European networks and programmes in Cyprus. We also encouraged young people to record their personal and unique message on the interactive Voice your Vision platform, a component of the European Year of Youth designed to empower young Europeans, from all backgrounds and corners of the continent, to voice their own vision of the future – ranging from issues of employment, inclusion, peace and security, to climate change, education, mental health, and more.
When President Ursula von der Leyen announced the European Year of Youth for 2022, she wanted Europe to listen carefully to its young people, to better shape the Union for their futures. Our event was designed and structured around the feedback we received to a survey earlier this year asking young Cypriots to name their main priorities and concerns for the future. Our aim was to ensure those needs were met.
We look forward to organising similar events in future, particularly in light of the upcoming European Year of Skills 2023!
