European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award 2023

Equality and diversity are a top priority for the European Commission. To fight discrimination and push for more equal societies, the Commission has adopted a proactive approach, with targeted action plans and measures.

European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award 2023

As part of ongoing efforts to make good on its commitment to foster more inclusive and fair societies in Europe, the Commission is organising for the second time the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award. This new initiative complements the annual EU Diversity Month, which raises awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and across our societies.

The European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award is open to all local authorities in the EU who are building fairer societies by promoting diversity and inclusion in terms of:

  • Sex
  • Racial or ethnic origin
  • Religion or belief
  • Disability
  • Age
  • LGBTIQ identity

This means your town, city, or region could get the recognition it deserves for building an environment that allows everyone to feel safe and fulfil their potential.

Award categories

There are two main categories:

  • Local authorities with less than 50 000 inhabitants
  • Local authorities with more than 50 000 inhabitants

A special Award will also be given for LGBTIQ equality initiatives. You can submit your application in any EU official language.

Deadline

Applications close 15 February 2023 12:00 CET. The Award ceremony will be held on 27 April 2023.
