ANNUAL EUROPE DAY CELEBRATIONS

The annual celebration of Europe Day will be marked with a series of events taking place on Sunday 7 May in Limassol, and in Nicosia on Tuesday 9 May and Saturday 13 May.

The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and the Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus are co-organising the annual celebration of Europe Day with a series of events taking place on Sunday 7 May, Tuesday 9 May and Saturday 13 May.

9of May also marks the official start of the European Year of Skills and this year’s events will be themed around the Year, alongside topics such as the green transition, competitiveness and inclusiveness.

On Sunday 7 May, and in cooperation with the Municipality of Limassol and Europe Direct Limassol-CUT, there will be a celebratory Europe Day event at the Molos Seafront in Limassol. The event will feature a cultural programme with the Youth Wind and Youth Jazz Municipal Orchestras of Limassol as well as schools participating in the European Parliament Ambassador Schools programme in Limassol. The Limassol event will start at 17:30 and at 20:00 will feature the Limassol Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra with the participation of soprano Riana Athanasiou, tenor Marios Andreou and the choir of the “Diastasis” Cultural Association. During the event there will be booths for meeting the co-organisers, learning about Limassol as one of the 100 selected cities by the EU Mission for Climate Neutral and Smart Cities, the European Year of Skills 2023 and other European member states.

On Europe Day, Tuesday 9 May, the official celebration will begin with the raising of the EU flag in Eleftheria Square, Nicosia, attended by Commissioner Stella Kyriakides who will be in Cyprus on an official visit and will speak at the event.

This will be followed by a keynote address by Commissioner Kyriakides at an event to mark Europe Day held at the House of Representatives.

The 9th of May events will close with an official reception at EU House in Nicosia from 17:30 attended by and under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The President and Commissioner will both give keynote addresses at the event.

On Saturday 13 May, and in cooperation with the Municipality of Nicosia, there will be a public event in Eleftheria Square, Nicosia from 10:00 to 13:30. Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know the European Union better, to be informed about European issues, priorities, initiatives, and programmes as well as meet partners working on the European Year of Skills. There will be booths from the embassies of EU member states, traditional dances and songs, as well as the opportunity to participate in interactive games and win prizes. There will also be dedicated activities for children.
