The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration' that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.

To mark Europe Day and the European Year of Youth 2022, the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus with the support of the European Parliament Office in Cyprus is organising an online survey for youth to gather young voices on the issues most important to them. All entries to the survey will automatically enter a draw to win one of ten smartwatches.
The European Commission Representation in Cyprus together with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus would like to inform you of the forthcoming celebrations for Europe Day 2022 listed in chronological order as follows:
Larnaca: The Europe Direct Information Centre in Larnaca is organising a Youth Festivalwith emphasis on the European Year of Youth, on Saturday 7 May 2022 at Europe square between 16:00 – 21:00. The fair will host information stands of relevant programmes, stakeholders and participating EU embassies.
Nicosia: The Europe Direct Information Centre in Nicosia will be organising the event Europe Day 2022 for Peace, Democracy, Unity and Solidarity at Eleftheria Square on Sunday 8 May 2022 between 10:00 – 15:00. The event will start with the raising of EU flag and with the Ode to Joy. There will be information stands of relevant programmes, stakeholders and participating EU embassies.
Limassol: The Municipality of Limassol will be organising the event Europe Day 2022 at the Multifunctional Coastal Park – Molos on Sunday 8 May 2022 between 17:00 – 21:00. The event will host open air concerts.
At the same location there will be a European outdoor photography exhibition "Cultural and architectural Heritage of the European Union". This is an event of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union in collaboration with EUNIC.
Turkish Cypriot Community: There will be two events organised where Member States are invited to participate. These Europe Day events shall be targeting youth and will be providing them with the opportunity to explore EU culture, lifestyle and languages at Member State embassies’ stands, while Technical Assistance and other EU-supported project stands will allow them to understand how the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot Community is of benefit to the Turkish Cypriot community and economy. They will also have the chance to find out about the funding and volunteering opportunities though the Technical Support and EU-supported projects.
The first event will take place on Saturday 14 May 2022 from 11:00 – 14:00 at Namık Kemal Square, Famagusta. The second event will take place on Saturday 21 May 2022 from 15:00 – 19:00 at Kumsal Park, Dereboyu, Nicosia.
