The eighth Cypriot civil society in action grant scheme aims at supporting civil society in enhancing trust, dialogue and cooperation and in promoting European Union values and standards through actions that contribute to promoting reunification of Cyprus. Since 2007, the European Commission has launched seven Cypriot civil society in action calls for proposals, for a total amount of EUR 14 million and one thematic call for proposals Together against Trafficking in Human Beings for EUR 1 million.
This call for proposals is composed of three lots with different priorities:
Lot 1- bi-communal research actions, will contribute to increase the scientific interaction between the Cypriot communities through implementation of joint Cyprus-focused research projects.
Lot 2 – bi-communal confidence building actions, aims at promoting interaction between the Cypriot communities on the following priorities: environment; peace, reconciliation and trust building; human rights; and culture or sports.
Lot 3 – strengthening civil society in the Turkish Cypriot community, will support actions reinforcing the civil society in the following sectors: environment; human rights; media literacy and promotion of ethical journalism; sound management in line with EU standards; and actions addressing the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.
EUR 500,000 is earmarked for Lot 1 and applicants can request a European Union (EU) contribution from EUR 30,000 to EUR 100,000. EUR 1 million is allocated for Lot 2 and EUR 1 million for Lot 3, and applicants can request an EU contribution from EUR 50,000 to EUR 200,000 for these two Lots.
For all Lots, the EU contribution can represent from 60% to 95% of the total amount of the proposed action. The applicant and/or co-applicant(s) should co-finance the remaining part of the costs.
Actions proposed under Lot 1 and Lot 2 should be implemented with a minimum of two applicants, one from the Turkish Cypriot community and one from the Greek Cypriot community. Additional co-applicants can be registered outside Cyprus as detailed in the eligibility criteria section of the Guidelines for grant applicants (see below). Actions proposed under Lot 3 may be implemented by one applicant only, where the lead applicant has to be from the Turkish Cypriot community.
The call for proposals is a restricted one so applicants should only submit concept notes initially. The deadline for submission of the proposals (concept notes) is 19 April 2022 at 15:00 Brussels time (16:00 Cyprus time).
