In 2025, EU's Erasmus+ programme will support learning exchanges abroad and cooperation partnerships in education, training, youth and sport with around €5 billion. Representing a 6.5% increase in funding compared to last year, the Commission published the Erasmus+ 2025 call for proposals today.
With over 16 million participants since its launch in 1987, Erasmus+ continues to grow in demand. It also continues to expand in terms of access and inclusion for individuals with fewer opportunities. This focus aligns with the recently adopted Council recommendation on ‘Europe on the Move', which sets ambitious targets for increasing mobility and participation, especially for underrepresented groups.
Additionally, Erasmus+ continues supporting a various range of cooperation models. Erasmus+ will also continue to play a key role in advancing the Blueprint for a European degree, supporting the automatic recognition of learning qualifications across borders, and enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions. Through its support for learning exchanges and collaboration, Erasmus+ is paving the way for a more integrated European education system.
The Erasmus+ programme will remain committed to supporting Ukraine's education system, as well as learners and educators in Ukraine or having fled to the EU. In 2023, Erasmus+ also funded the printing and delivery of 500,000 Ukrainian-language schoolbooks. This year, a further 1 million art and computer science books have been provided to schools in Ukraine. A third batch is planned for the 2025-2026 school year.
In line with the priority areas outlined in the Erasmus+ programme for 2021-2027, the call will continue to support a wide range of projects focusing on promoting social inclusion, the green and digital transitions, and young people's participation in democratic life.
Background
Any public or private body active in the fields of education, training, youth or sport can apply for funding, either via Erasmus+ National Agencies (in all EU Member States and countries associated to the programme) or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency.
The total budget available for Erasmus+ from 2021 to 2027 was set to €26.2 billion, complemented with some €2.2 billion from EU's external instruments. Today's call for proposals under the Erasmus+ call for 2025 follow the adoption of the 2025 work programme for the implementation of Erasmus+.

Quote(s)
With Erasmus+, we are not just supporting education and mobility: we are promoting the very values that unite Europe, such as solidarity, inclusion, democracy, and respect for human rights. Since its creation, the programme has empowered millions of participants, with 16 million mobilities and counting. As we look to the future, Erasmus+ will continue to embody these fundamental values, helping to build a Europe that is more cohesive, open, and united in diversity.
Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life
Erasmus+ is one of the European Union’s greatest success stories, transforming lives and connecting people through education, training, youth and sport for nearly four decades. With €5 billion dedicated to the programme in 2025, we are expanding opportunities for learning abroad and fostering greater inclusion and cooperation across Europe and beyond. As we continue to support millions of participants, including those with fewer opportunities, Erasmus+ remains at the heart of building a stronger, more united and forward-looking Europe.
Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth
