EU AID PROGRAMME FOR THE TURKISH CYPRIOT COMMUNITY: Scholarships for Turkish Cypriots to study at the College of Europe

As part of its support to facilitate the reunification of Cyprus, the European Commission is delighted to announce scholarships for postgraduate European studies at the prestigious College of Europe. Founded in 1949, the College of Europe has provided generations of students and future leaders with the knowledge, experience and collective wisdom to turn the dream of a unified, peaceful and prosperous continent into reality.

The EU Scholarship Programme offers up to three scholarships to exceptional Turkish Cypriot individuals to study at the College of Europe during the academic year 2022-2023. Scholars will have the opportunity to complete a one-year Master programme in one of six academic fields in the medieval town of Bruges in Belgium. The scholarships are conditional on selection by the College of Europe and cover full tuition fees, accommodation, boarding, a monthly stipend and travel costs.

Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira said: “I am delighted that the EU’s Scholarship Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community will enable Turkish Cypriots to study at the College of Europe, which is, by all accounts, a life-changing experience. The College is known for providing a top quality education and an in-depth understanding of Europe in all its diversity, in a highly stimulating environment. At the heart of it is the desire to overcome national divisions and furthering the European integration project. I consider this very important in the Cyprus context.”

Applicants will be considered for this scholarship scheme provided they:

• Belong to the Turkish Cypriot community and a resident of Cyprus,
• Were born in Cyprus or one of the parents must be born in Cyprus,
• Have an appropriate university degree,
• Are proficient in French and English languages.
