Commission allocates €96.2 million from Horizon Europe to co-fund doctoral training and postdoctoral fellowship programmes under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions

The results of the MSCA COFUND 2023 call are out! €96.2 million from Horizon EU will support doctoral training and postdoctoral fellowship programmes. These projects recruit global talent, boost research & improve working conditions.

Today, the Commission has announced the results of the 2023 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) call for the co-funding of regional, national and international programmes (COFUND). As a part of Horizon Europe, the EU programme for research and innovation, €96.2 million will co-finance 12 doctoral training programmes and 15 post-doctoral fellowship programmes and will employ around 800 excellent researchers. Selected projects span various scientific disciplines from improving and adapting the EU's agrifood technology sector to the effects of climate change and promoting an ethical, human-centric and sustainable use of artificial intelligence.

Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said: “Europe must nurture top talent in order to keep its competitive edge in research and innovation. Through the COFUND scheme of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, researchers receive high-quality training, supervision and career development opportunities. Moreover, they get the chance to work in renowned academic and non-academic organisations across Europe and worldwide.”

Since 2014, the MSCA have supported 300 COFUND projects, including those funded under this call. COFUND helps organisations create or enhance their own training and fellowship programmes with the goal of increasing their attractiveness and research and innovation capacities. This will in turn contribute to foster innovation exchange and attract global talent. The Commission co-funds a significant share of these programme's costs, which institutions need to top up with their own funding sources. More information is available here. The 2024 call for the scheme is open and will close on 26 September.
