Vice-President Schinas, Commissioners Reynders and Johansson at Justice and Home Affairs Council

Tomorrow, Commissioner Reynders will join the Justice Ministers with the aim to reach a general approach on the Commission's proposals to modernise judicial cooperation: the Regulation on digital information exchange in terrorism cases and the Regulation establishing a collaboration platform for Joint Investigation Teams (JITs). Furthermore, they will seek to agree on a partial general approach on the draft environmental crime Directive. The Justice Ministers will also review progress related to the e-evidence proposals, and will discuss fighting impunity in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. They will also aim to approve Council conclusions on the rights of the child, as well as discuss the state of play on the EU's accession to the European Convention on Human Rights. During the meeting with the Home Affairs Ministers on 10 June, Vice-President Schinas together with Commissioner Johansson will participate in discussions on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, Frontex and Ukraine. Commissioner Johansson will present to the Ministers the progress made under the 10 point Action Plan for stronger European coordination on welcoming people fleeing the war from Ukraine, followed by discussions on the next steps for continued EU solidarity. A factsheet highlighting progress made under the 10 point action plan so far will be available after the meeting. Commissioner Johansson will also present to the Home Affairs Ministers the first State of Schengen Report that was discussed in the Third Schengen Forum last week. Ministers are expected to agree on that basis on the priorities for 2022-2023 as well as the key elements of the new Schengen governance model. Ministers will also take stock of the progress made on the Commission's proposal on the Prüm II Regulation, the amendments to the Schengen Borders Code, the Directive on the information exchange between law enforcement authorities, as well as the EU Drug Agency. The Ministers will also aim to adopt the conclusions on protecting Europeans from terrorism and organised crime, as well as on interoperability.
