The Families Acting for Critical Thinking (fACT) initiative, implemented by CARDET, brings together an intergenerational group of participants to create a radio play exploring key media literacy themes, such as how to find reliable information information, recognise misleading content and think critically about what they see and hear. By working side by side, children, adults and older adults share perspectives, experiences and creative ideas, turning media literacy into a collective learning experience.
What makes the project particularly innovative is its use of sound-based storytelling as a tool for engagement. Through the process of writing, performing and recording the radio play, participants do not only discuss media literacy concepts, but also translate them into stories, voices and scenes that are accessible and meaningful for the wider community.
A QR-code sound trail will be installed in Paralimni’s local library to extend the impact of the project. Visitors can scan the codes to listen to clips from the radio play, transforming the library into an interactive cultural space where media literacy is experienced through sound. This creative link between learning, storytelling and place helps anchor the project in the everyday life of the community.
The project is set to launch over the summer of 2026 and reflects the EU’s broader commitment to supporting innovative, community-based actions to help address growing challenges such as social fragmentation, digital isolation, and declining trust in public institutions. It is one of four projects selected in Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Cyprus under the call ‘Building community across generations through media literacy’, each receiving €50,000 in EU support to strengthen intergenerational dialogue and democratic resilience in small towns and rural areas.
