
The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus celebrated Europe Day in Pafos and Nicosia this year. The events brought together hundreds of people united by their common sense of pride in our larger European family. The 9 May began with the raising of the EU flag over the historic town hall of Nicosia, organised by Nicosia Municipality, followed by a reception at the medieval Castelliotissa Hall in Nicosia in the presence of Commissioner Costas Kadis, the President of the Republic and stakeholders.

In the evening of 9 May, Arte Music Academy presented the European Union Songbook in Nicosia - a unique collection of 164 songs from all 27 EU member states, celebrating Europe’s rich musical heritage! The event was a tribute to unity in diversity, created by and for Europeans. It was held under the auspices of Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, supported by the European Commission in Cyprus, and in collaboration with Europa Nostra’s Heritage Hub.
PAFOS EUROPE DAY
In central Pafos on 10 May 2025, there was a European Village with stalls, embassies, information about European programmes and funding. This was followed by a concert on the 28th October Square entitled “Mediterranean: Let the dances last”: A unique music and dance journey featuring Babis Tsertos, Giorgos Ioannou and Riana Athanasiou. Pafos Municipality Philharmonic Orchestra and the dance groups “Ktima” and “Aphrodite” of Geroskipou participated in the event which was well-received by the many attendees. Co-organisers: Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and Pafos Municipality.

NICOSIA EUROPE DAY
At Ledra Palace in Nicosia, there was a large Europe Day celebration entitled Together/Birlikte/Μαζί. There were over fifty stalls with embassies, information, exciting activities for children, puppet shows, demonstrations of pottery, delicious food, dancing, music, concerts, choirs and more. Co-organisers: EU Infopoint, European Commission in Cyprus, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and Nicosia Municipalities.
