A workshop on translating contemporary Cypriot poetry and prose into Spanish, French, English, Serbian and Turkish

The Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the University of Cyprus is organising the workshop “Crossroads of Multilingualism. Translators and Creators” on 25 October 2025 at the University of Cyprus.

Held under the auspices of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, the event will feature distinguished translators of contemporary Cypriot poetry and prose into Spanish, French, English, Serbian and Turkish. 

The workshop will open with an address by Mary Panousi, representative of the Directorate-General for Translation of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus. Following the presentations, a round table will bring together translators and authors/poets, including Antonis Georgiou, Nasia Dionysiou, Evi Zorpidou, Angela Kaimaklioti, Giorgos Kalozois, Giorgos Moleskis, Panagiotis Nikolaidis, Pavlos Pamporidis, Michalis Papadopoulos, Erina Charalambous, Giorgos Christodoulides, and Stavros Christodoulou.

The workshop aims to highlight the role of translation in showcasing contemporary Cypriot literature within the broader framework of multilingualism; to foster exchange between translators and creators; and to launch a discussion on existing challenges and the opportunities ahead for the more effective international dissemination of Cypriot literature.
